The Law states that a natural father who is not married is obliged to take a child from the maternity home or other health care establishment, if a mother failed to do it.
The President of Ukraine called for specifying the procedure of paternity examination to eliminate the risks of abuse of the right to take the child from the maternity home or other health care establishments with the purpose of trafficking in children. According to the President of Ukraine, the Law should specify that for the father to take the child from the maternity home or other health care establishment, his paternity shall be stated in the birth certificate or acknowledged by a court judgment.
